Losing weight often involves frustration and restrictive eating methods for many people. These methods often exhaust both the body and the organism. It is believed that this diet was designed by experts with many years of research Military Medical Academy in Belgrade. This diet is designed primarily for patients who need to lose weight due to upcoming surgery.
In addition to successful weight loss, this hospital diet provides vitality, accelerates metabolism, works detoxification of the body and provides a feeling of satiety. Unlike other exhausting diets, the feeling of weakness is completely eliminated thanks to a carefully determined menu that is used for 15 and 18 days.
Who is the VMA diet for?
This diet is recommended for people who need to prepare for surgery where weight loss is necessary. Also, the VMA diet is a good option if you need to lose a few pounds before a special occasion where you will be wearing your favorite outfit. This diet helps you to quickly get rid of excess fluid and the feeling of bloating in the body.
In general, the VMA diet is ideal if you have a small excess weight that you are struggling to lose. According to various reports, this diet can help you lose between 7 and 10 kilograms in two weeks.
How does the VMA diet work?
There are many diets that are similar to this one, and some even claim to be better and more effective rapid weight loss. However, we should be aware that all other diets are based on rapid weight loss, which can have serious consequences for overall health.
The VMA diet, on the other hand, is designed to speed up metabolism and improve health, ultimately leading to natural weight loss.
The VMA diet reduces body weight by significantly reducing the intake of fats and carbohydrates, and increasing their conversion into energy that the body will use. This principle represents a completely natural way of losing weight because it is based on processes that do not burden the body, and the results are noticeable and long-lasting.

VMA Diet Rules
The VMA weight loss diet has exact rules that must be followed as prescribed. Only if you approach this diet correctly and responsibly will you see results.
The 15-day VMA diet recommends avoiding fruit, potatoes, sugar, pasta and grain products. And the following foods should be consumed in moderation: eggs, meat, green salad, fish and coffee. If the rules are followed, the hospital diet for weight loss successfully eliminates 5 to 15 kilograms in a period of 15 to 18 days.
Cut out the sugar.
The first and most important rule is to completely eliminate sugar - not only from drinks, but also from food. Artificial sweeteners should be avoided because they quickly cause a feeling of hunger. Sugar has many negative health consequences.
First of all, a large intake of sugar can lead to unwanted weight gain. Also, there are studies that have successfully linked the consumption of sugar with the appearance of acne, diabetes type 2, cancer, depression, accelerated aging, lack of energy and fatty liver.
Alcohol-free
Another rule prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Long-term and excessive alcohol use can lead to the development of chronic diseases and other serious problems, including:
High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease and digestive problems. Also, high alcohol intake is associated with breast, mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon and rectal cancer.
Doctors have come to the conclusion that alcohol causes a weakening of the immune system and increased chances of various diseases. It also causes learning and memory problems, including dementia and poor academic performance.
Alcohol is thought to be responsible for mental health problems, i.e. disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Beer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
Beer can be called bread in liquid form. Unfortunately, it contains many simple sugars that are quickly broken down and absorbed. For this reason, this drink has no place in the VMA diet.
No cigarettes
The next rule is to throw out cigarettes completely. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also increases the risk of tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and immune system problems, including rheumatoid arthritis.
Exposure to secondhand smoke contributes to approximately 41,000 deaths among nonsmoking adults and 400 deaths among infants each year. Secondhand smoke causes stroke, lung cancer and coronary heart disease in adults. Also, children exposed to secondhand smoke have an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome, acute respiratory infections, middle ear disease, severe asthma, respiratory symptoms, and stunted lung growth.

Carbohydrates
Refined carbohydrates are devoid of almost all fiber, vitamins and minerals. For this reason, they can be considered "empty" calories.
They are also quickly digested and have a high glycemic index. This means they lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels after a meal.
Eating foods with a high glycemic index is associated with overeating and an increased risk of many diseases.
Therefore, the VMA diet prohibits the intake of refined carbohydrates in the diet. These include white flour, white bread, white rice, pastries, sodas, snacks, pasta, sweets, breakfast cereals and added sugars.
Also, carbohydrates are added to all kinds of processed foods.
Margarine
Margarines are an industrial imitation of butter with an unnaturally high content of omega-6 fatty acids. They are not good for health and are linked to asthma, allergies and a number of other inflammatory diseases.
Fruit
Fruit contains a lot of sugar, especially if it is very sweet. It can be consumed occasionally. Fruit should be considered a natural sweetener.
Water intake
The following rule should be followed whether you are on a diet or not. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, or up to 2 liters every day. This means you can also drink lemonade or green tea, which have been shown to be effective in weight loss.
Meal rules
Dinner should be served no later than 8 p.m. You should not consume anything after this time. Also, it is very important to consume the meals in the correct order and not to skip any of them.
Meals are served every 4-5 hours. When you eat breakfast, your insulin levels rise and fat begins to be stored. There is no breakdown of fat as long as the effect of insulin lasts (up to three hours). Lipase, an enzyme that breaks down fat, cannot function as long as insulin is present in high concentrations in the blood and blocks it.

Benefits of the VMA diet
The VMA medical diet has several advantages over similar diets based on reduced calorie intake. Although it is a low-calorie diet, the VMA diet does not cause the typical symptoms of weakness, dizziness, irritability or attention deficit disorder.
You will be surprised how quickly the results come and you will effectively get rid of the cellulite that bothers many women.
You don't have to be afraid of the yo-yo effect, and with minor changes in your eating habits, the pounds won't return long after you stop dieting.
The VMA diet is suitable for people with health problems, diabetics and heart patients. Because of the positive results, the VMA weight loss diet should not be repeated for at least a year.
Disadvantages of the VMA diet
Although this diet is very popular, you should be careful before starting it.
The reasons for this are:
- The VMA diet is well-known, but the VMA completely disassociates itself from it.
- The VMA Diet has not been subjected to any scientific research or testing.
- Excessive calorie restriction can lead to a significant loss of muscle mass.
- A large body of evidence suggests that low-carbohydrate diets outperform calorie-restricted diets. Atkins, Keto, and Paleo diets are examples of low-carb diets.
- Each individual is unique. The VMA diet does not cater to individual needs and has the same approach for everyone.
VMA doctor's opinion about this diet
Hundreds of posts about the famous VMA diet have been published in magazines and are now available online and on social media. This diet is considered to be the recommendation of VMA experts. Apart from the fact that, like any diet, it is a bad idea because it uses a universal approach, the doctors of the Military Medical Academy distance themselves from it:
"So-called" VMA diet not a recommendation from a doctor from the Military Medical Academy
There are texts on the Internet and social networks about the so-called VMA diet, which is presented as a recommendation of a doctor from the Military Medical Academy. The MMA distances itself from such texts and recommendations so that citizens are not misled, which, in the last case, can affect their health.
The VMA Nutrition Counseling Center, which is located within the Department of Preventive Medicine of the VMA, deals solely with an individual approach to each patient and creates different types of diets adapted to age, health, habits and other important factors in each individual case. In addition, the Counseling Center prepares standardized menus as part of nutritional support for patients undergoing inpatient treatment at the VMA, as well as for outpatients.
When it comes to diets for achieving the desired body mass, it is necessary to warn potential users about the possible harmful effect of rigorous dietary restrictions, which aim to achieve an "ideal" weight in an unrealistically short term. Therefore, it is particularly important that, before undertaking such a diet, experts are consulted, such as exist in our and other counseling centers.
Proper nutrition is one of the segments of preserving health and preventing chronic diseases, as well as improving the quality of life. "

Users of this diet say they didn't feel lethargic, didn't have headaches or were sleepy. So even if you don't seem to be eating enough food, you won't lack energy.
